Over 5,000 golf enthusiasts visited the inaugural SPH Golf Travel Fair on April 6 – 8 at Marina Square Shopping Mall.

The SPH Golf Travel Fair, which was free and open to the public, was the first of its kind in the region.

Held across the weekend, the inaugural fair featured over 30 golf clubs from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines, making it the first golf-centric travel fair in the region, along with other exhibitors like TaylorMade, adidas Golf and Prudential.

“The SPH Golf Travel Fair was a great success for us. With the slowly reducing number of clubs in the country, we want to raise awareness of the regional destinations available to golfers in Singapore and promote golf tourism,” said Karen Chan, managing director of SPH Pacom Pte Ltd, who organised the fair.

She added, “The turnout over the weekend has been very encouraging and is a reaffirmation of the efforts that have gone into making the fair a reality, as well as the potential for future editions.”

Building up to the event, the SPH Golf Travel Fair was able to reach over 3.3 million consumers by tapping on publications such as The Straits Times and the Business Times, as well as the print and online assets of Golf Vacations, Golf/Women and the SPH Golf Card membership base.

Official radio station ONE FM 91.3, as well as sister station KISS 92FM, provided further reach during the week of the fair to drive their listening public there.

Cyrelle Ricafort, Country Manager from Ayala Land Premier said: “We were impressed with the marketing support in the newspapers, radio coverage and write-ups in Golf Vacations magazine.”

Executive Producer, DJ and golfer Andre Hoeden was the emcee for the SPH Golf Travel Fair.

“I had a great time hosting the SPH Golf Travel Fair. As a golfer myself, it is very exciting to be a part of something new and I believe the fair has a lot of potential.” said the 15-handicap golfer who has played for 25 years. ONE FM91.3 broadcasted live from Marina Square over the three-day event.

The SPH Golf Card also saw a huge jump in its membership, with over 400 sign-ups and renewals over the weekend.

In partnership with Club Wyndham Asia, a part of the Wyndham Vacations Ownership portfolio, a complimentary four-day, three-night stay was offered for each SPH Golf Card sign up throughout the duration of the fair.

Members have a choice between Wyndham Sea Pearl Resort Phuket, Ramada Plaza Bangkok Menam Riverside and Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay with options to upgrade at attractive rates.

Winfred Tan, an SPH Golf Card member who renewed this membership during the fair said: “I’ve been enjoying the benefits of the SPH Golf Card and the complimentary green fee vouchers have given me an excuse to travel to new destinations for golf. For $220, the hotel stay was a steal!”

On the future of the SPH Golf Travel Fair, Karen said: “We have already begun planning for next year. The SPH Golf Travel Fair 2019 will be much bigger, with more exhibitors and destinations to be showcased. We would like to thank everyone who came down and for being a part of the first and largest golf travel fair in the region.”
